Assassin's Creed might just be irrevocably down for the count - despite a pretty tantalising leak recently emerging about its future - as 2014's Unity was genuinely broken, but for what it's worth, Syndicate is the most solid AC since Black Flag. Playing as two characters you can hop between on the fly, the Frye twins Jacob and Evie are supposed to represent the melee and stealth approaches to missions we've been employing in the past. In actuality, you're free to spec them in the same way, but its the cutscenes that bring them to life, with some exemplary voice acting and motion capture work showcasing Jacob's exuberance alongside Evie's more learned and academic approach to taking over London. By this stage you know how AC works, so simply add in some quality of life improvements like auto pick-pocketing enemies, a MGS 4-style threat ring to spot enemies and a world that encourages verticality for spectacular kills, if there was any note to go out on, this is one of the sweetest.
