One of the most irreverent and hilarious games ever made, Conker's Bad Fur Day was another genius effort from Rare, a game that was absolutely not intended for children, given that it revolves around a loud-mouthed, alcoholic a**hole squirrel trying to return home to his girlfriend after a night out on the sauce. In addition to this, the game includes a boss that is literally a giant pile of crap, a number of outrageous video game parodies (most prominently Ridley Scott's Alien), brilliant voice acting, super-streamlined controls, awesome graphics, and even a multiplayer mode (so-so though it is). It's sadly rather short, but there's not an ounce of fat to be found, and every second is pure, unadulterated joy. Plus, it also delivers one of the most memorable endings in video game history; an outrageous meta-joke about video game development that leads to an appropriately miserable conclusion for our colourful protagonist. Sadly, the game's adult appeal impeded its commercial success, despite the game receiving consistent praise for its adult content and wit, and though the game was remade for the Xbox in 2005, we're still waiting for that much-demanded sequel, Conker's Other Bad Day.
Stay at home dad who spends as much time teaching his kids the merits of Martin Scorsese as possible (against the missus' wishes).
