One of the most impossibly brilliant video game concepts ever created, Super Smash Bros. is a fighting game featuring a line-up of Nintendo's finest, including Mario, Luigi, Donkey Kong, Kirby, Link, Pikachu, Samus and Yoshi. Play takes place on a number of elaborate, platformed stages, with players fighting each other in an attempt to raise their opponent's damage percentage, with each blow increasing the likelihood that you can smash the enemy off the edge of the map - as is the ultimate goal. The beauty of Super Smash Bros. is its simplicity: there's not a lot to remember, and pretty much anyone can play it. In addition to the fistfights, there are weapons and power-ups that players can collect strewn around the maps. Though the single-player mode is fun enough, the game truly comes into its own with the 4-player multiplayer, which is hilarious, frustrating and insanely fun all at once. Unsurprisingly, the game's massive success led to two sequels on the GameCube and Wii, with a third due out on the Nintendo DS and Wii U before the end of the year.
