One of the most revolutionary video games ever made, Ocarina of Time brought The Legend of Zelda franchise kicking and screaming into the 3D realm, as Link again sought to take down Ganondorf and stop him from getting his grubby mits on the TriForce. Much like Super Mario 64, it proved to be a tremendously influential title, with its targeting mechanics in particular becoming commonplace in the following years, as they helped curb the camera issues that plagued the first spate of 3D action games. Few games are as impeccably designed as OOT, and though it wasn't the very best looking game on the N64, it delivered a sense of epic scale that few games for the platform ever did. In addition to this, the use of context-sensitive buttons was widely praised, and of course, is now one of the most common control mechanics in contemporary gaming. The vast environments, the heart-racing sense of adventure, and the jaw-dropping boss fights have helped OOT endure as a classic, even if that damn Water Temple level is still one of the most infuriating, hair-pulling levels we've ever played through.
