Why hasn't there been a Wave Race game since 2001's Blue Storm? The Wave Race mini-game from the Xbox One's Kinect Sports Rivals certainly gave us a taste for another entry into the series, though we'll have to make do with digging out our N64 version, which remains the best game in the franchise. Wave Race is a devilishly simplistic game, but one that promotes fun above all else, and that it certainly is: there just weren't that many jet-ski racing games around in 1996 (and frankly, there never have been), and with its impressive visuals and insanely fun tracks, Wave Race quickly cornered the market on console-based water sports. The game features the expected standard fare racing game modes, such as Championship and Time Trials, but a fan favourite was the Stunt Mode, which saw players trying to accrue the maximum number of points through diverse, gravity-defying trickery. The multiplayer is also a blast, even though it's a shame it only supports two players. With its unique personality and singular gameplay, is there any surprise Wave Race is held up as an all-timer?
