God of War ticks every box imaginable. Taking a formerly one-dimensional character who'd rip someone's head off before attempting a conversation, this older, wiser, sadder Kratos was a version of the character we didn't know we needed.

Reframing his older adventures as the immature escapist power fantasies they always were works perfectly on a meta level, and this aged Kratos connotes sorrow and power in equal measure. His humble quest to scatter wife Freya's ashes lets you bond with son Atreus, and in turn, you have a road movie, a coming-of-age tale and a phenomenal third-person hack n' slash adventure all in one.

Sony knocked it out the park this generation, and with Kratos leading the charge on their lineup of exclusives, whatever's next on PS5 can't come soon enough.
