20 Best Video Game Opening Levels Of The Last 10 Years

5. Robbing A Bank In Cosplay Of Yourselves - Saints Row: The Third

After trying to discard the rulebook for its sequel, embracing the 'whacky' sensibilities GTA demonstrated especially across San Andreas, Volition's third attempt went for broke. They wrote one of the funniest and most expertly-timed scripts in gaming history, one that simultaneously didn't give a f*ck about anything, whilst also giving a huge f*ck about everything.

It's how levels like the introductory one can happen. The premise for SR3 is that the Saints have become international celebrities... yet, they're still gangsters. Hence robbing banks in 'masks' that are giant heads of their star member, Johnny Gat, signing autographs for hostages and busting out expertly-written one-liners along the way.

It creates this mentality for the game that takes you along for the ride and lets you know exactly where you stand, but still has endless surprises in store along the way. See? Appearing to care about nothing, but really, everything has been pre-thought out.

As a combination of quality-tested elements, Saints Row 3 is possibly one of the most confident video games of all time.
