20 Best Video Game Opening Levels Of The Last 10 Years

4. "That Is A LOT Of My Blood..." - Uncharted 2: Among Thieves

As much as Uncharted is one of the most successful and adored franchises in all of gaming, it didn't hit the ground running. That 2007 original succeeded off the back of its characters and very little else - which is where Uncharted 2 came in.

Written by who would go on to be quite the dream-team, Neil Druckmann and Bruce Straley, Among Thieves is the 'dark sequel', opening up with no sign of Elena, instead just seeing Drake sitting motionless, bleeding out in a train. Only the train is on the edge of a cliff, and from here you need to piece together how he got there in the first place.

Thanks to just how much of a contrast it was to the happy-go-lucky treasure-plundering of the original, the fact Drake was already starting out on the back foot and we were immediately given an incredibly engaging reason to keep playing, helped this go on to become one of the most iconic openings of them all.
