1. Undertale

Are you mad? Of course you are. Most people get mad when confronted with the truth.

You just kinda had to be there to truly understand the immediate and craterous impact Undertale had on the gaming industry and community when it first dropped. There have been thesis papers, video essays, and god only knows how many Tumblr blogs detailing it, but to truly understand requires actual experience. I was there, man. And the punchline is that it was 100% warranted, because Undertale really is that damn good.

The story is the perfect example of appearing simple at the outset but gaining cavernous depth as you continue on and replay it multiple times, with hundreds of random events that can occur with each playthrough, and multiple different ways the story can end.

The characters have permanently seared themselves into popular culture with their iconic designs and fluid story arcs influences at every turn by the player. And the story is one of the most mind bending experiences I have ever had, with the game holding your feet to the fire at every turn, with some choices even forever corrupting your game to the point where you can NEVER get the best ending.

Undertale is the greatest story ever written in gaming. Who knows whether or not Deltarune will be able to match it. Stranger things have happened, but I sincerely doubt it.
