For years, Call of Duty hasn't exactly rested on its laurels, but you knew what you were getting. With Black Ops 3 we got a major shakeup in the time period being depicted, going further into the future than the faux-"believable" Advanced Warfare, but in Black Ops 4 we're in full-on Overwatch, superhero shooter territory.

Honestly though? It fits Call of Duty like a glove. Perhaps a glove many fans hope isn't a permanent accessory, but gameplay now means each character has their own special ability, ranging from deployable shields to attack dogs, multi-flash grenades to electric darts that then gets bolstered by a custom loadout.

Matches are frantic as always, but with a larger time-to-kill you can trade fire and survive more skirmishes, letting you take in some of the finest levels Call of Duty has seen in years. Add on the battle royale mode Blackout and the so-stupid-it-just-works Zombies, and you won't even notice the lack of a campaign.
