13. Assassin's Creed Odyssey

 Assassin's Creed Odyssey

After the in-motion trainwreck that was AC: Unity and the under-the-radar sales bomb of AC Syndicate, it was going to take a lot to get us all invested in Assassin's Creed again.

Thankfully, AC Origins restored faith by focusing on combat, refined mission design and a great main character, and now we've got Odyssey essentially being more of the same, but to a ludicrously accomplished degree.

AC Odyssey is genuinely staggering, the result of Ubisoft flexing considerable resource muscles to fill a game disc with wall-to-wall content.

Main characters Alexios and Kassandra are both written with a need to dive into the next quest, encouraging you to pick any direction and explore. Combat and stealth has finally been finally perfected after 10 years of sequels, giving you a menu of face button powers that translate into brutal finishers, multi-headshot arrow volleys, teleportation backstabs and everything in between.

AC Odyssey feels like Ubisoft admitting they love the kitchen sink approach, but damn if it isn't enjoyable the whole way through.
