20 Best Video Games Of The Decade
8. Dark Souls
The game that had the biggest impact across the 2010s, Dark Souls carried on where Demon's Souls left off, but its far more refined and considered difficulty curve created a groundswell of copycats - be they complete ripoffs or titles that ape parts of the "Souls formula".
While everything from Assassin's Creed to God of War started controlling in the same way as FromSoftware's masterpiece, the reason Dark Souls got there in the first place was through incredibly well designed combat puzzles, and bosses you'd bash your head against for hours.
Customisation options give you thousands of different builds, and gameplay is routed through a deceptively simple lock-on system that slowly expands to cover a range of offensive and defensive abilities.
Like newer work Sekiro, learning to conquer and surmount Dark Souls is a badge of honour, and one that on the game side, should be played by everyone.
