20 Best Video Games Of The Generation (So Far)
5. Inside
As much as Limbo set the world on fire back in 2010, the eight-year long-development of Inside feels like it almost came and went. That said, those who played were treated to one of the most immaculate gameplay experiences of all time.
From the general feel of moving the anonymous young protagonist to the dank, dreary aesthetic that brings this dystopian, Orwellian nightmare to life, you can tell Playdead took all those years to smooth over any remote issues, bugs or hiccups. The end result is a pitch-perfect depiction of a young soul disappearing into an industrial complex to discover what lies inside, where the studio haven't sacrificed one iota of their original intent.
The only slight knock is that you can clock Inside in around four hours, but its interpretational ending is one philosophy majors will debate for years to come. As a video game, it feels incredibly well put together, purposeful in every regard and narratively memorable thanks to how many fan theories have sprung out of its climax. Basically, you just need to see it for yourself.
