20 Best Video Games Of The Generation (So Far)

6. Horizon Zero Dawn

Horizon Zero Dawn
Sony

The first game from Guerrilla Games in over a decade that isn't Killzone, Horizon Zero Dawn is one of the most immaculately refined experiences on modern hardware. Graphically it's beyond stunning, widening eyes particularly on PS4 Pro, but its genius also comes through one of the most in-depth and thoroughly researched video game stories of all time.

A complex web of present-meets-past-meets-future, you'll play character Aloy as she attempts to discover the history of her mother, realising her place in the world is far more predestined than anyone could've thought. To say more would give away the surprise, as Horizon's most satisfying beats come from disappearing into the underground 'Machine World', exploringcities and campsites primitive man has built in this 'post-post-apocalypse', or taking down scores of animalistic machines in some Shadow of Mordor/Far Cry-aping combat.

It's a shame the copy n' pasted likes of Ghost Recon: Wildlands outsold a game with passion you can feel oozing through every pore, but that's why it's highlighted on lists like this: Horizon Zero Dawn is a game literally everybody in possession of a PS4 must play.
