Anyone who’s played Smash Bros. knows the character of Captain Falcon, but only a few people these days know what game he originates from—F-Zero.

F-Zero is a series of futuristic racing games that goes as far back as the year 1990. Originally a pseudo-3D title that was considered one of the best entries in the racing genre, F-Zero would eventually move onto a proper 3D environment. The most beloved of these games is F-Zero X, which was a massive hit, but an equally amazing experience can be found in the title that officially concluded the franchise’s existence, F-Zero GX.

F-Zero GX is one of the most fast-paced and adrenaline-pumping racers you can play and is just as good as its massively successful predecessor, if not better, given its higher difficulty level that adds a new challenge to the series.

The game really feels like the perfection of the F-Zero formula, however, it still sold quite poorly during its release, forcing Nintendo to end the franchise’s life cycle forever.

The main reason for the poor reception was the game’s higher difficulty that failed to appeal to more casual players. Even though it’s exactly this quality of GX that the fans of the series praise nowadays.
