20 Biggest Video Game BOMBS That Deserved Better
6. Sunset Overdrive
Insomniac Games is a titan of the video game industry, with games like Ratchet & Clank and their hit Spider-Man series receiving worldwide acclaim.
However, there is one game under their belt that, despite sharing the same quality and ingenuity as their better-known franchises, actually left the market with less than desirable results—Sunset Overdrive.
Sunset Overdrive is a unique mix between a skating game and a hack-and-slash actioner Set in a post-apocalyptic city overrun with mutants created via a freak energy drink accident, the game implements a completely original combat system featuring grinding and combo tricks, similar to a Tony Hawk game.
Coupled with a bright and colorful art style that had not yet been seen in the postapocalyptic genre, the game was certainly the most original title on the 2014 market.
The problem was that it came out as an Xbox exclusive, and since Insomniac’s fanbase mostly resided with PlayStation players, what with the company working exclusively with Sony for over twenty years at that point, the Xbox market was almost completely unacquainted with their work.
Sunset Overdrive’s originality ended up only alienating the Xbox fanbase, instead of roping them in, despite the fact that these days most people consider it to be an Xbox classic.
