So, Desmond dies in Assassin's Creed 3. After five games, the series just aborts his entire character, and does away with him entirely, arguably four games too late. What does this mean for Assassin's Creed IV?

Well, the science-fiction elements are actually accentuated, casting players in the role of a new, faceless protagonist, who suffers from a serious deficiency of personality. Oh, and he's also working for a fictitious video game development company named Abstergo Entertainment, who are essentially the creators of Assassin's Creed.

You're given an office, and tasked with researching the experiences of Edward Kenway, another one of Desmond's distant ancestors. Of course, Assassin's Creed being Assassin's Creed, the plot is quickly overcomplicated to the point of absurdity, but at least it opens fairly interestingly.
