So, back in 2014, the internet decided it wanted to be angry about something, so it rolled a dice and went for Assassin's Creed: Unity.

The advertising for the game had showcased four male protagonists, which led people to wonder: where are all the women?!

It didn't help that Ubi's comment on the matter essentially stated it was "too much work" to include a playable female, and of course, Assassin's Creed: Unity didn't actually include four protagonists anyway.

Arno was the only playable character; the other three were essentially placeholders for the online multiplayer, but that didn't stop people from getting mighty worked up about the whole thing.

A bunch of people complained a lot, and it was made into a bigger deal than it needed to be; that is, until the internet got bored a week later, and moved on to something else.
