20 Comic Book Video Games You Must Play Before You Die
11. Superman: Shadow Of Apokolips
It's only when you start trying to think of awesome comic book games, that it'll dawn on you how little Superman features in any of them. Sure he's been part of rosters on fighting games or popped up in a movie tie-in or two, but he's yet to receive anything close to a standalone series that could take his basic abilities and really run with them. For Shadow of Apokolips it was a solid adaptation on the Animated Series; taking that show's barrel-chested aesthetic and applying a cel-shaded graphics engine to keep it authentic. However, unlike Superman 64, Infogrames knew the capabilities of the character in their hands, and weren't about to relegate him to a pithy checkpoint-based racer. Instead, you were free to fly around the city, pick up goons, trucks and other large objects like they were nothing, scorch enemies with your heat vision, bolt off into the skies at lightspeed and everything in between. It remains extremely underrated and ultimately overlooked completely as it arrived in the same year as Vice City, Spider-Man's first movie tie-in and Timesplitters 2, but this is one of the only games that'll truly make you feel like Superman himself. And that alone, is cause for celebration.
