20 Craziest Moments In Gaming In 2025

Looking at gaming moments this year that left fans absolutely reeling.

The gaming industry has been an absolute whirlwind this year for better or for worse. Over the last 12 months, old-school franchises saw a resurgence, classics got remade, and long-awaited sequels finally hit shelves. Companies have made all sorts of announcements, teasing revolutionary software and new consoles, indicating the industry is still adapting and evolving.

Of course, not all of it has been good news. Sandbox titles, shooters, and platformers that generated a lot of buzz failed to live up to expectations, critically or financially. Even though major tie-ins or crossovers were announced, they didn't get the attention they were hoping for. Certain studios have made a couple of mind-boggling business boo-boos, suggesting they might be on the way out. (One of them rhymes with Shmicrosoft.)

Of course, let's not forget about the games themselves. This year has delivered masterful twists, sensational boss battles, and tragic deaths, many of which are sure to be discussed for years to come.

Whether these 2025 gaming moments were awesome, unexpected, or flat-out idiotic, there's no doubt each of them left a massive impression.

20. Oblivion Returns Unannounced

Bethesda

It's difficult to think of a remaster in recent memory that blindsided gamers the same way as Oblivion. There've been rumblings galore of Elder Scrolls IV getting a touch-up for years, but it seemed like wishful thinking since it never amounted to anything.

That's why it was shocking when Bethesda announced the rumours were legit via livestream on April 22nd 2025.

But rather than teasing Oblivion Remastered for months or years, it was made available immediately after. It's standard for tentpole brands to milk any new instalment for as long as possible, so it was uncharacteristic to see the coveted Elder Scrolls entry fall into our laps with little to no warning.

Weirdest of all, the project itself couldn't have turned out better. Rather than churning out a texture update, the new iteration of Oblivion delivered a complete overhaul, including 4K visuals, new lighting, updated animations, battle mechanics, and modernised user interface.

Because of this, calling the game a remaster feels misleading, since it's closer to a full-on remake. So much work and time was put into this version of Oblivion, it's a wonder how Bethesda kept it secret.
