20 Crowdfunded Video Games That Made Millions

8. Broken Age - $3.45 Million

This was the game that started it all. When Tim Schafer and Double Fine productions began their Kickstarter campaign for Double Fine Adventure - later to be Broken Age - they couldn't have imaged that the original target of $400,000 would be passed by more than $3 million. With over 87,000 backers in a month, it became the largest ever crowdfunded video game project at the time. The campaign did bring some problems, which, paradoxically, may have been because the project raised so much more funding than anticipated. This extra cash allowed Double Fine to add more content to the game. Unfortunately, Schafer actually ended up designing too much content. Despite these problems, the episodic point-and-click Broken Age received almost unanimously positive reviews.
