20 Dead Gaming Franchises That NEED To Come Back
18. Resistance
Resistance takes place in an alternate 1950s, where humanity wages war against a horde of aliens called the Chimera.
Rather than following the typical military shooter formula, Resistance fused retro-futuristic style, creative alien weaponry, cinematic storytelling, and horror-infused action into a cohesive FPS experience. The mainline games were solid, but Insomniac moved onto more lucrative IPs when Resistance 3 sold poorly. After the online features were turned off in 2014, Resistance was effectively dead.
Though Resistance 4 was on the cards, it was shut down since it was too similar to other post-apocalyptic titles, like Days Gone, Horizon Zero Dawn, and of course, The Last of Us. And with the genre more overstuffed than ever, a Resistance sequel or reboot could get lost in the shuffle, regardless of its quality.
Also, Insomniac probably don't have the time or incentive to reignite a decade-old brand, since they're busy with AAA Marvel properties like Spider-Man and the upcoming Wolverine.
But you never know. After all, they brought back Ratchet & Clank in the enthralling 2021 sequel, Rift Apart, so it's possible to see Resistance in the future.
