While real-time strategy games like Dune II laid the groundwork for the genre, Command & Conquer perfected it, combining fast-paced gameplay with intuitive resource management, base-building, and unit control.

As its influence grew, Westwood Studios hired reputable stars to prominently feature in the live-action segments, including Tim Curry, George Takei, and J.K. Simmons. Not only was the starpower welcome, bringing in Hollywood brass reaffirmed how powerful Command & Conquer had become (despite some questionable performances and line-deliveries).

But as is often the way, studio closures and shifts in development focus impacted the continuity and quality of Command & Conquer titles, causing it to fizzle away.

Luckily, EA have done everything they can to preserve Command & Conquer's legacy, releasing remastered versions of the original C&C and Red Alert games in 2020.

Rather than leaving it at that, the source code for Tiberian Dawn, Red Alert, Renegade, and Generals was made accessible in 2025. With these developments renewing interest in the property and providing opportunities for new and returning players, there's no doubt a new Command & Conquer would be a huge cause for celebration.
