Even though Fast Fusion on the Switch 2 is excellent, it made players pine for another futuristic driving title - F-Zero. The supersonic game introduced ultra-fast hovercraft racing, creating a style that inspired Wipeout, Extreme-G, and elements of Mario Kart 8's anti-gravity design.

F-Zero X amped up the action with 30 racers on-screen at once and tracks that looped, twisted, and defied gravity. F-Zero GX's speed, difficulty, and visual design gave it cult-classic status. Also, the franchise as a whole has generated some of the most adrenaline-pumping soundtracks out there.

But after GX, the series largely went dormant. Aside from a few handheld spin-offs and Captain Falcon routinely popping up in Super Smash Bros., there hasn’t been a major release since the early 2000s.

Although GX producer, Toshihiro Nagoshi, said he'd be keen on working on F-Zero again, it seems Nintendo have reservations about another racing property getting in the way of Mario Kart's success.

2023's F-Zero 99 was a nice throwback to the original, but it would be awesome for Nintendo to give the fans what they want and go all in with a true sequel.
