20 Essential N64 Games You Must Play Before You Die
6. Perfect Dark
In retrospect, I'm so glad that EA outbid Rare for the rights to a game based on the Tomorrow Never Dies Bond film. Not only was that adaptation pretty naff in comparison to GoldenEye 007, but Perfect Dark gave the studio free reign to create a world from scratch rather than adhere to a strict set of rules for an existing property.
The result was a spiritual successor to the aforementioned shooter, but one with a strong female protagonist and a cyberpunk-themed world that's on the brink of being overrun by a secretive and hostile alien force.
And did I mention that there's a friendly alien called Elvis who has the most adorable voice you'll ever hear? Best companion ever.
