10. The PAL Card - Metal Gear Solid
KonamiMetal Gear Solid is one of the greatest games ever made, but just like Halo, it's a fantastic game with one dud section. While attempting to prevent the launch of Metal Gear, Solid Snake must use a PAL card three times in three different slots to apparently stop the launch, and due to the key being a "shape memory alloy", its shape changes according to the temperature it is in. So, Snake can immediately use the key once at room temperature, then must run to the cold warehouse and dash back for the second key, and finally leg it to the boiling blast furnace and back for the third. It's boring busy work in an otherwise amazing game, and realising this, Hideo Kojima smartly gave players an accelerated method of getting through it in the GameCube remake The Twin Snakes, by using liquid nitrogen and steam pipes close to the control room. It's not massively difficult, but it's incredibly boring and takes far too long, stopping the game completely dead in its tracks.
