Mitsurugi is, for my money, the best character in the SoulCalibur series, a Ronin who remains one of the franchise's stalwart characters, an honourable if occasionally arrogant warrior who proves to be one of the game's biggest threats. He is a popular character because, unlike many SoulCalibur fighters, he is easy to pick up and play, and in addition, benefits from high agility and strength, making him the go-to fighter for new players looking to learn the ropes. In fairness, Mitsurugi doesn't exactly have the most varied move set, and as a result more skilled players will probably be able to anticipate a lot of his moves. However, nailing just a few of his attacks will deal massive damage, and a smart player prepared to put the time in to master his style will be handsomely rewarded.
Stay at home dad who spends as much time teaching his kids the merits of Martin Scorsese as possible (against the missus' wishes).
