20 Greatest Female Video Game Characters Of All Time
4. The Boss (Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater)
Say what you will about the Metal Gear Solid franchise, there's no denying that the series has had a bit of an awkward history when it comes to the over-sexualisation of female characters. While you could perhaps excuse the provocative designs or some of the dialogue with in-game lore, there's simply no excusing the way the camera leers over the bodies of most the female soldiers in these games. However, the one exception to this is MGS 3's The Boss. More or less the catalyst for the entire series in retrospect, Naked Snake's mentor is an incredibly complex character, balancing several different allegiances for the sake of carrying out her mission to the very end. Not only felt as a major presence in the third game, her legacy and importance stretches over the franchise as a whole, to the point where even in the recent fifth entry still features characters and plots that hinge around the ideology of this one iconic soldier.
