20 Greatest Female Video Game Characters Of All Time

3. Lara Croft (Tomb Raider)

Although it would have been pretty easy to put Lara Croft high on this list and call it a day, that would do a massive disservice to the amount of portrayals the character has seen since her initial conception in the original Tomb Raider. Sure, her legacy alone would more than make her a candidate for the top stop, but really, until the 2013 reboot, the character never really felt like more than a gaming symbol or an exaggerated archetype. And there were certainly noble attempts to humanise Croft, but unfortunately those games aren't exactly fondly remembered today. Angel of Darkness gave her a darker grit, yet that title itself is considered by many fans to be the franchise's lowest point. But no matter how unchanging Lara was for the most of her gaming career, there's no denying the impact the character has had on the industry as a whole. And with the 2013 reboot and the upcoming Rise of the Tomb Raider giving fans a brand new incarnation of the gun-toting adventurer, Lara has never been more relevant.
