Developer: SEGA Release: 1995 Notable Games: Panzer Dragoon Saga, Shining Force III, Virtua Fighter 2 The Saturn was an attempt by SEGA to get in there before the release of the PlayStation and Nintendo 64. While it didn't even come close to the popularity of these two gaming giants, the SEGA Saturn did manage to amass a fantastic library of games before it fizzled out after only a few years. SEGA's console was ultimately beaten out by the PlayStation due to its inferior 3D graphics capabilities, which was starting to become all the rage in gaming. Despite this, many of the exclusives were absolutely phenomenal considering the Saturn's short life. Virtua Fighter 2 is still considered one of the best 3D fighters ever made, and the Panzer Dragoon series remains highly sought after. The SEGA Saturn was always destined to receive limited commercial success, instead content to be a cult console among the gaming hardcore.
