Developer: Sony Release: 2006 Notable Games: Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, Heavy Rain, The Last of Us The PlayStation 3 had an undeniably troubled launch. Sony's successor to the timeless PlayStation 2 might have been the most powerful console to date, but it had a ridiculously high price tag to match it. The first couple of years didn't see too many killer exclusives, many of the multiplats were buggy, and the console had no backwards compatibility. Based on those first few years, there's no way the PlayStation 3 could hope to feature on this list. Thankfully, the console has only gotten better over the years. Many of the best titles, such as Uncharted 2, The Last of Us and Grand Theft Auto V came out in the latter half of the console's lifespan, helping to make the PlayStation 3 a must-own device for contemporary gamers. Add in the PlayStation Plus scheme offering a fantastic deal for its low annual fee, and the PlayStation 3 was finally a worthy successor to what had come before.
