20 Greatest Multiplayer Games Ever

1. Team Fortress 2

Developer: Valve Platform: PC, Xbox 360, Playstation 3, Mac OS X, Linux Release: 2007 Team Fortress 2 is yet another example of Valve showing that when it comes to game design, they know best. Pre-release footage of the game was initially criticized by fans, but the cartoony, cel-shaded graphics were ultimately key to the game's massive popularity. By the time the game was released, Team Fortress 2 swiftly became beloved for its charm and personality. It isn't just the aesthetics that Team Fortress 2 has going for it. The gameplay is balanced to perfection, thanks to the class-based system that heavily rewards teamwork over selfish play. Initially offered as part of the amazing Orange Box deal, Team Fortress 2 has since become free-to-play, with the droppable items arguably adding even more to its long-term appeal. Addictive, competitive and featuring a generally brilliant community, Team Fortress 2 is still the best class-based shooter available today. Do you still play any of these titles on a regular basis?
