One of the greatest city builders every made, in terms of raw gameplay, SimCity 2000 has arguably never been surpassed. A huge improvement over the first game, SimCity 2000 introduced a wealth of complexity such as underground layers, land elevation, and a vast amount of facilities. Thanks to the clear interface and bold 2D graphics, the game is still very playable by today's standards. It's also just as addictive as ever, thanks to its never-ending gameplay with no specific win condition and huge variety of options. The games that followed it in the Sim City series have all been good in their own right (except EA's recent disaster), but none have bested the intricately crafted original.
