This is the game that started it all. Wolfenstein 3D is commonly cited as being the game that popularised the FPS genre, establishing many of the genre's conventions that are still seen today. Not only that, but it cemented Nazis as the ultimate video game foes, that everyone loves to hate. Often named the 'grandfather of 3D shooters', it's impossible to discuss the history of FPS gaming without mentioning Wolfenstein 3D. The awesome premise of bringing down the Nazi regime, along with being able to gun down enemies in a 3D space. Wolfenstein 3D brought together the twitchy, fast gameplay of traditional arcade games with a whole new level of immersion, making it one of the most important video games ever made.
