It's one of life's greatest tragedies that modern audiences will know the Duke only for his limp 2011 effort, with the rubbish Duke Nukem Forever. Don't let that game fool you though, because there was a time when Duke Nukem was leading the charge of pushing the shooter genre forwardsm, to where it is today. Duke Nukem 3D is the best game to come from the franchise, following the comically macho Duke as he battles against invading alien forces. The game features highly interactive environments (a rarity at the time), non-linear level design and fast, challenging gameplay. Above all, Duke Nukem 3D was riotous fun, and hugely influential on modern game design.
