It seemed like Valve would never be able to surpass Half-Life. More of the same would have been enough for most developers, maybe with some graphical improvements and new environments. Instead, Half-Life 2 ended up as the most satisfying single-player shooter experience ever made, pushing the genre ahead in almost every aspect. For starters, Half-Life 2 looked absolutely phenomenal. This was in no small part due the physics engine, which made explosions look gorgeous and led to unique puzzles at multiple points along the journey. It also allowed for the existence of the gravity gun, which is still one of the greatest weapons in gaming. Fans have been waiting for the sequel to this incredible game for a decade now, but it's a wonder as to how Valve can ever surpass the storytelling, gameplay and technological achievement that Half-Life 2 really was.
