Developer: Paradox Interactive Released: 2012 Somehow, Paradox Interactive managed to make a genre that was traditionally limited to a relatively small audience, into the talk of the gaming world. Crusader Kings II is a grand strategy game that puts the player in the shoes of a lord trying to gain influence, land and power in medieval Europe. In order to achieve whatever personal goal you've set, you'll probably need to betray allies, marry off heirs, keep the people happy and be prepared for assassination attempts. Interestingly, you're in charge of a family dynasty rather than an individual or nation, meaning that when your starting character dies, you'll take over the role of their heir. It's complex, but Crusader Kings II is worth getting into if only for the often hilarious stories you'll forge in the treacherous medieval world.
