Although it's gone quite spectacularly off the boil thanks to a really strange fourth instalment and a reboot that confused more people than it pleased, the third DMC was the one that first re-righted the ship following a weird turn in two. Part of what made for such a return to form was a focus on upping the visual ante and delivering boss battles you'd be talking about for decades, one such encounter being the multiple showdowns you'll have against Vergil; Dante's brother and someone who's been programmed in-game to play just as fast as you'll let the difficulty slider allow. Every fight is a fireworks display comprised blades, bullets and motion blur, making you genuinely sit up and pay even more attention whenever he was on screen. Although there were more evil forces at work throughout Dante's Awakening it's Vergil's sibling rivalry relationship with Dante that made it soar.
