18 Greatest Video Game Villains Of The 2000s

15. Alduin - The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

What's a more formidable and memorable villain than a psychopathic pervert with a whopping great budget to torture people with? How about an ancient skyscraper-sized dragon you'll eventually fell by scarpering between its feet and firing off scores of spells to chip away at its health, Gandalf/Balrog-style? Although Skyrim is rarely praised for its story - the time spent picking your jaw back off the floor after realising how big the world is leaves room for little else - interacting with the Greybeards and learning your place in the world gave way to a fantastic in-world prophecy alluding to taking down such a hulking creature. Luckily although Bethesda's combat can occasionally be a bit spotty, the multiple dragon battles throughout always felt suitably huge in their scale, and when the final showdown takes place in another realm with you surrounded by the heroes of old all swearing to defend Tamriel from destruction there's rarely anything as satisfying as when he finally bit the dust.
