No other game has come close to matching The Walking Dead's accomplishment of making the player feel like they're living through a zombie apocalypse, or compels them into an emotional connection with the characters around them. The Walking Dead is set in the same universe as the comics, featuring a few crossover characters but telling its own unique tale. This story is heavily affected by the player's decisions, often influencing who lives and who dies. More than any other game on this list, these decisions are hugely stressful, and really put you in the shoes of a leader of people that depend on you for their survival. It might not feature the cinematic presentation of The Last of Us, or the refined action gameplay of Left 4 Dead 2, but The Walking Dead excels in where it matters.
