20 Hilarious Video Game Mechanics You Didn't Know Existed

13. Voracious Goats - King's Quest (2015)

King’s Quest (2015) is a 3D reboot of the classic Sierra point-and-click adventure games that follows the original protagonist of early King’s Quest titles, King Graham, as he recounts the stories from his early days of adventuring.

Like the original series, the reboot is chockful of funny moments that usually end with the main character’s untimely death. Most of these are pretty easy to predict (for example, angering a bridge troll will obviously end up with Graham getting eaten), but there is one death that has its own mechanic tied to it, and it’s such a random and unpredictable moment that it can easily get a surpise chuckle out of you.

When encountering the Merchant of Miracles, the player can interact with the two “unicorns” (which are in reality very obvious goats with cardboard horns) that drag his wagon around.

At this point of the game, you also get access to an axe, and if you decide to use it on the goats, the merchant will immediately tell you to stop it, as his goats are very voracious predators.

It may seem like an empty threat, but if you continue to use the axe on the goats, after your third interaction, the goats will actually eat Graham alive.

The goats are the only NPCs programmed to kill the player for spamming an item at them, which is why this interaction is so shocking but also funny.

It’s like its only purpose is to spite you.
