The end of Grand Theft Auto IV faces the player with a dilemma: perform a heroin deal with sketchy Dimitri Rascalov and make $250,000 (as advised by Niko's cousin Roman), or decide to take revenge instead (as girlfriend Kate suggests). If you take the deal, Roman ends up being murdered just moments after his wedding to Mallorie, causing Niko to go on a violent revenge spree, before the game ends with Mallorie revealing she's pregnant with Roman's child, and Niko promises to look out for him. If you take revenge, Kate is the one who ends up being gunned down outside the church, and after Roman announces Mallorie's pregnancy, they promise to name the kid Kate if it's a girl. Each death was devastating in its own way, and for as much as we might have hated Roman calling us every 10 minutes to go bowling, they were both likeable characters who didn't deserve that grim fate. It was a landmark moment for the GTA series as it introduced a branching narrative and gave the players a choice in how their story concluded.
Stay at home dad who spends as much time teaching his kids the merits of Martin Scorsese as possible (against the missus' wishes).
