When Ecco first made an appearance on the Megadrive the game simply blew people away. Graphically it still stands as one of the best titles the console has ever played host to and the game itself offered an entirely different experience to anything else available at the time.

Taking control of the titular dolphin, the player is tasked with exploring the ocean depths, communicating with other animals and navigating the labyrinthine sea in an effort to find the source of the vortex disrupting sea life on Earth.

He eventually ends up travelling back in time to the ancient city of Atlantis, which simply offered more chance for the developers to exercise their technical muscle.

It is one of the most awe-inspiring games on the console and is a surprisingly relaxing experience to boot. After all, there's nothing quite like exploring the ocean as a dolphin.
