17. Kojima Originally Wanted To Call It "Metal Gear Solid III"

In what might be the most Hideo Kojima decision possible, he originally wanted to title the sequel "Metal Gear Solid III" as a reference to the skyscrapers in New York's skyline, and also to screw with fans who would obviously expecting it to be called Metal Gear Solid 2.

Unsurprisingly Kojima's suggestion was met with resistance, and so he ditched it in favour of a more familiar, less-confusing titling convention.

Even beyond the confusion factor, this was an additionally sensible decision given that 9/11 ended up happening just two months before the game's release, so hinging the game's title and possibly its logo design around skyscrapers would've been an extremely unfortunate look marketing-wise.
