20 Mind-Blowing Things You Didn't Know About Metal Gear Solid 2

16. It Cost Just $10 Million To Make

Considering its high degree of polish and the massively ambitious nature of its production, it's extremely impressive that Metal Gear Solid 2 was produced for just $10 million.

For comparison's sake, Final Fantasy IX ended up costing a whopping $40 million the year prior, and 2015's Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain was produced for a huge $80 million.

To deliver a game as well-aged and masterfully engineered as this on the budget of a modest Hollywood horror movie is frankly staggering, though Kojima may have been able to keep costs lower by hiring college graduates to fill out most of his 70-person development team.

Needless to say, Konami's investment paid off dividends when the game went on to sell over 7 million units worldwide.
