Even though Game Freak are best known for the Pokémon series, they did actually produce games before then - they worked on some early Mario and Yoshi games for Nintendo in the 90s. They also made a couple of games for Sega's Mega Drive.

One of these was the platformer Pulseman, which was only released in America and Europe on the Wii Virtual Console - but Game Freak keep hiding references to it in their most famous series.

For example - in Diamond and Pearl, Rotom was introduced into the games, which has a suspiciously similar aesthetic to the protagonist of Pulseman. Also in D&P, the villains of the game are Team Galactic, or "Galaxy Gang" in Japan. Who are the bad guys in Pulseman? You guessed it - it's the Galaxy Gang.

As a final point, Pulseman's signature move is the 'Volteccer'. What's the signature move of the most famous Pokémon, Pikachu? Volt Tackle.
