20 Most Anticipated Video Games Of 2023
8. Pikmin 4
Platform: Nintendo Switch
More than 20 years on from Pikmin's debut, it's safe to say that there's nothing quite like it in the gaming pantheon.
There's been the odd pretender to the throne in the intervening years (the appropriately-titled Little King's Story comes to mind), but by and large Nintendo's charming bulb-headed aliens have fenced off a small corner of the strategy genre and made it their own.
Pikmin's unique approach to Real Time Strategy is another example of Nintendo putting their own spin on established genres, and its curious blend of cozy garden settings and cartoon brutality has amassed it a significant cult following.
Nintendo knew exactly what they were doing when they announced Pikmin 4 with nothing but the game's logo. Simply acknowledging the game's existence was enough to satiate Pikmin fans the world over, who had feared the series had fallen in the same purgatory F-Zero has been languishing in since 2003.
Luckily for us, it hasn't. Pikmin 4 is real, it's coming, and we couldn't be happier about it.
