10. The Walking Dead - Shoot Me

Choose your own adventure games had a real boom this decade, with Telltale Games injecting fresh life into the genre. Like the zombies which first brought them fame, the company is unfortunately dead now, but it was one of the most prolific developers of the 2010s.

As well as several Walking Dead sagas, Telltale also found time for Borderlands, Batman, Game Of Thrones, The Wolf Among Us and plenty more besides. Of those though, The Walking Dead remains their piece de resistance. Lee and Clementine’s adventures were packed with intense moments, but one is a clear standout.

Choose your own adventure games often get a bit of stick for having their choices mean little. Obviously with so many choices, the end results must converge somewhere, but the best instances still leave you feeling responsible.

Here, no matter what choice you make, Lee dies and control passes over to Clementine. However, the decision you must make is soul crushing and intense. Knowing there’s no way out for you, you turn to Clementine, and the game offers you a choice. ‘Shoot Me’ or ‘Leave Me’.

On the surface, your choice doesn’t matter, but how you close Lee’s storyline is crucial to your own experience.
