20 Most Intense Video Game Moments Of The Decade

16. Grand Theft Auto V - The Ending Choice

Grand Theft Auto V offers the player three distinct endings, all revolving around a similar theme: the death the protagonists.

In the debate and fall out since the three endings, fans have generally agreed that Ending C, Deathwish, plays out the best and wraps the game up in the best way. It manages to keep everyone alive while providing a satisfying, more complete ending.

Endings A and B, either killing Trevor or killing Michael, definitely have an impact, but can come off a bit rushed. Still, on a first playthrough, the idea of killing off one of the protagonists is certainly intense. Trevor has gone down in video game legend, so axing him is especially powerful.

Despite the ending where all three survive being preferred, that’s as much down to execution as it is outcome. Had Rockstar fully committed to this bit and have one protagonist always die (or even one where they all die), it might have been an even better ending and landed even higher on this list.

As it stands, it’s still an intense moment, even if it feels like Rockstar could’ve gone even harder.
