20 Most Replayable Video Games Of The Decade (So Far)

9. Mortal Kombat (2011)

Beat 'em ups should make something of a return in 2015 thanks to both Street Fighter V and Tekken 7 releasing within days of each other, but the best of the lot has already happened; Mortal Kombat's soft reboot from 2011, featuring NetherRealm playfully resetting their own universe in the best way possible. See, by having Raiden transport his conscious back through time to the eras of the original trilogy, suddenly we got to see all those original environments brought into the HD age. Older characters and skins could be upgraded, and by altering the path of the past, new ones could come in, too. It allowed them to tell the best story that's ever been seen in a fighting game, with cutscenes that hid load times, ensuring the whole thing was like one giant thrill-ride you didn't want get off. Fighting itself was sped up, new special moves such as X-Ray attacks were added, the roster was bigger than ever and there were a ton of characters and items to unlock. MK9 outshines 2015's release by a considerable margin, and is the best to play even if you've never played any Mortal Kombat before.
